Senate will vote for postponement of ARMM elections, says DILG Chief Robredo
MANILA, Philippines – The majority in the Senate will vote for the postponement of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) elections, Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo told reporters in an ambush interview Monday.
“I’m very confident and very hopeful that if it’s voted in the senate, the majority will vote for the postponement,” Robredo said, adding that the next hurdle is the Supreme Court.
He added that they were more certain that they have valid legal arguments for the postponement.
Robredo said that the legalities of the election’s postponement were very clear adding that the proposed synchronized election on May 2013 was under the law. “If the elections will be in August, that is illegal.”
“For those who were saying that the postponement was illegal, in fact, it’s illegal to not to postpone it,” he added.
