Albay to go under GCQ despite mayors’ request for ECQ extension

LIBON, Albay –– League of Mayors of the Philippines Albay president Mayor Das Maronilla of Libon town expressed dismay over the decision of the Interagency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Disease (IATF-EID) to put Albay province under general community quarantine (GCQ) despite their group’s call for the extension of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

“The way I see it, Albay will now be under GCQ. Our request for an extension was not given priority,” Maronilla said.

Asked what will happen in Albay if GCQ is in effect, he said: “it will be a burden for the mayors, particularly how to handle the PUMs (persons under monitoring) that will be coming home from Metro Manila.”

He said it would be best if mass testing is done before placing Albay under GCQ beginning May 1.

As of Thursday afternoon, Albay has 30 confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 cases.
