The Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) recorded a decrease of 18 percent in the total crime volume last year as compared to the figures in 2010 while its crime solution efficiency rate increased to 25 percent last year as compared to 2010’s 18 percent.
Senior Supt. Patrocinio Comendador, CPPO director, attributed these positive developments to the consistent implementation of the new police programs.
The pro-active Police Integrated Patrol System deployment helped in the decrease of the crime rate.
During the Talakayan Sa Pulis program, Comendador presented that the total crime volume in 2010 was 8,429 while in 2011, they only recorded a total of 6,916.
He also revealed that their crime clearance efficiency in 2011 has increased to 39 as compared to the 27 percent in 2010.
Crime solution efficiency means the number of crimes solved after the arrest of the suspects and filing of charges against them while crime clearance efficiency means the number of crimes considered solved because suspects have been identified and charged but they remain at large.
In 2011, the average monthly crime rate in the Province of Cebu is 20.44 percent, a decrease by 4.5 percent from 2010’s 24.91 percent.
The Ellah Joy Pique case, arrest of the Tabasan robbery gang, cybersex in Cordova, armed encounter in Dalaguete, Ponce massacre in Talisay City, hostage taking in Toledo City and the M. Lhuiller robbery also in Toledo City were among as the “significant incidents” of 2011 according to Comendador. /Correspondent rhea ruth rossel
