6 dead in Tondo fire

Tondo mom goes to market, comes home to fire that killed her 2 children, 4 others

MANILA, Philippines — Six persons died while two others were injured when fire broke out in Tondo District 1, Manila on Thursday

Five of the six fatalities were female, including two teenagers and a 70-year-old woman, according to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).

The BFP said the conflagration happened along Tioco corner Tapuri Streets in Barangay 89 Zone 8.

The incident was verified by the BFP at 6:37 a.m. First alarm was raised at 6:38 a.m.

The blaze was placed under control at 7:17 a.m. and was declared fire out at 7:52 a.m.

The BFP said 20 families were displaced by the fire. Estimated damage to property was pegged at  P150,000.

Further investigation on the cause of the blaze is ongoing.
