MANILA, Philippines — A “deputy commissioner” in a government bureau has been found to be involved in corrupt activities as the country faces the coronavirus pandemic, a lawmaker claimed Thursday.
ACT-CIS Partylist Rep. Niña Taduran said the government official is allegedly “accepting bribes in exchange for favorable action in the bureau.”
Taduran, however, refused to reveal the name of the said government official as well as the details of the alleged corrupt activities.
“Hindi ko maintindihan kung bakit sa gitna ng kinakaharap na krisis ng bansa ay may nakakagawa pa ng ganitong krimen? Wala ba siyang konsensya?” Taduran said in a statement.
(I do not understand how while the country is in the middle of the crisis, someone can do this kind of crime? Does he not have a conscience?)
“I am not inclined to reveal his identity at the moment but let this serve as a stern warning to him that his actions will not be tolerated and I will see to it that his corrupt practices will be dealt with seriously,” she added.
Taduran said she would immediately file a resolution seeking to probe the alleged corrupt activities of the unnamed corrupt official.
“Let me remind our government officials to always observe the highest level of honesty and decency in the performance of their duty. No form of corruption is too small,” Taduran said.
