MANILA, Philippines — For 2019 Bar topnotcher Kenneth Manuel, the thought of being in the Top 10 passers was impossible, and thought that he wouldn’t be one of the hopefuls to pass the rigorous exam.

“Hindi ako umasang magtatop ng Bar (I didn’t expect to top the Bar),” Manuel, a University of Santo Tomas (UST) Civil Law graduate, said on Twitter Wednesday

Manuel even showed a part of his schedule, giving a glimpse of how his life was while reviewing for the exams.

At one point, he said that he didn’t even reply to the good luck messages he received, thinking that those who cheered him on would only be disappointed in the end.

“Ganito isang sched ko during my working Bar review days,” Manuel said. Kaya hindi ako nagrereply sa mga good luck niyo kasi alam ko madidisappoint kayo.”

(This was one of my schedules during my Bar review days. That’s why I didn’t reply to those who said good luck because I knew you would only be disappointed.)

But the people proved him wrong, as Manuel placed sixth in the Bar exams.

“I should have believed in you guys! Thank you!” Manuel expressed his thanks to those he wished him luck.

A day before the results were released on the Supreme Court website, the new lawyer, who was feeling anxious while waiting for the results, said he slept at 4 a.m., and asked someone to email him the results instead.

“Gusto ko sana pagkagising ko nandun na bar result, so nagset ako ng alarm at 1pm hahaha (which naunahan ko apparently),” he said in another tweet. “Then heightened agad [blood pressure] ni bakla pagkagising, check agad ng tablet. Nirefresh ko yung table and OMG (oh my god)!”

(I actually wanted the Bar results to be released by the time I woke up, so that’s why I set my alarm at 1 p.m. [but I woke up before it rang, actually]. My blood pressure heightened when I woke up, then I checked my tablet. I refreshed it and oh my God!)

Manuel added by the time he slept the night before the results came out, he had his UST Law shirt on.

The 2019 Bar examinations yielded 2,103 new lawyers, having a 27.36 percent passing rate of the7,685 hopefuls who took the exam last November.
