MANILA, Philippines—More than 500 overseas Filipino workers from Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, and Malaysia got repatriated and arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Tuesday, the Department of Foreign Affairs said Wednesday.
The 515 Filipinos arrived on three separate flights that landed on Terminals 1 and 2 in the DFA’s effort to bring home Philippine nationals working abroad during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Upon arrival, the repatriates were subjected to rapid testing for COVID-19.
“They were also briefed on quarantine protocols before they were transported to designated facilities where they will undergo mandatory quarantine for 14 days,” said the DFA in a statement.
OFWs who weren’t designated to quarantine facilities were told to follow home quarantine procedures.
The DFA has repatriated more than 20,000 OFWs since Saturday wherein the agency said that its goal is to get 35,000 Filipinos back to the Philippines during the pandemic.
“The DFA, together with its Philippine embassies and consulates, continues to work with the various national agencies in assisting our Filipinos around the world in the midst of COVID-19 crisis.”
