Inclusion of media workers in coronavirus special risk pay sought
MANILA, Philippines — Senator Imee Marcos on Wednesday called for the inclusion of media workers to the so-called frontliners who will receive a special risk pay during the COVID-19 crisis.
Marcos made the proposal as she noted of the importance of journalists’ role in countering false information amid the health crisis.
“May panukala din ako na ‘yung media, sana isama din sa frontliner at makakuha din ng special risk payment,” Marcos said in a televised Laging Handa public briefing.
(I have a proposal to include the media personnel to the frontliners so they will also receive special risk payment.)
President Rodrigo Duterte previously authorized the grant of hazard pay to government workers who continue to report for work despite the crisis.
