MANILA, Philippines —A total of 186 Filipinos abroad have died from the coronavirus disease, mostly in the United States and in Europe, in a month’s time.
Nearly 1,400 Filipinos across 44 countries have tested positive for the virus, up from 153 cases when the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) began reporting COVID-19 cases among Filipinos last March 23 with the first Filipino fatality in France.
As of April 27, the DFA said 380 COVID-19-stricken Filipinos had recovered while 829 others were still “undergoing treatment.”
The DFA said for the past month, an average of 37 new COVID-19 cases among Filipinos overseas was confirmed every day. The highest daily increase was recorded on April 25 with 152 new cases, mostly in the Middle East.
