MANILA, Philippines — Five more police officers were diagnosed with coronavirus disease, bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases in the Philippine National Police (PNP) to 89.
As of Tuesday, the PNP Health Service Director Brig. Gen. Herminio Tadeo Jr. also reported that one more police officer survived the coronavirus disease. This brings the total number of recoveries to 13.
Meanwhile, the number of fatalities due to COVID-19 in the nation’s police force stayed at three.
PNP Health department also documented 559 police personnel who were listed as “suspects” and 199 police personnel considered as “probable.”
The Department of Health revised its classification of persons of investigation (PUIs), namely suspects who are suspected carriers of the disease but are yet to be tested for novel coronavirus and probable as PUIs with pending results.
PNP spokesman Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac said they would continue to enforce strict protocols of the enhanced community quarantine despite the increase of infected police personnel.
“The PNP will do all necessary measures under the law for us to maintain order and to overcome this Pandemic,” Banac said in a statement.
