PAGADIAN CITY—A military officer who had been cleared of coronavirus infection has tested positive for the virus.
The officer had been discharged from the Zamboanga del Sur Medical Center (ZDSMC) last April 7 after a second test yielded a negative result.
Dr. Robert Capatoy, Zamboanga del Sur COVID-19 Task Force spokesperson, said the patient left the hospital in good health.
Dr. Anatalio Cagampang Jr., ZDSMC chief, said the positive test result could be “from the remnants of the virus.”
After his discharge from the hospital, the military officer, who lives in Labangan town, had been advised to continue isolation while regularly being checked by health workers.
The third test was done to ensure he was no longer infected.
Capatoy said the 52-year-old military officer would be tested for a fourth time and could be brought back to the hospital.
The officer travelled from Taguig City in Metro Manila to Zamboanga City and on to the town of Labangan last March 14.
In Labangan, the officer suffered from cough, sore throat, fever and colds and was admitted for isolation at the ZDSMC last March 17.
Respiratory samples were taken from the officer last March 19 and test results confirmed he has COVID-19 last March 30.
