70 more recover as COVID-19 cases in PH rise to 7,579
MANILA, Philippines — Seventy more patients were able to recover from the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) as the total number of cases in the country soared to 7,579 on Sunday, April 26.
This is so far a record-high increase in recoveries recorded in a day, bringing the total number of recoveries to 862, the Department of Health (DOH) said.
The DOH also recorded 285 new confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country as of Sunday.
Meanwhile, seven patients succumbed to COVID-19, raising the country’s death toll to 501.
Over 2.8 million people worldwide are infected with the coronavirus which causes COVID-19. Over 200,000 have died due to the disease while more than 822,000 were able to recover, according to the Johns Hopkins University coronavirus board.
COVID-19 is a respiratory illness caused by a new coronavirus called SARS-CoV-2. The COVID-19 pandemic started in China’s Wuhan City in Hubei province in late 2019.
For most people, the coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia, and death.
