PILI, Camarines Sur –– The COVID-19 Incident Management Team of Naga City has filed a resolution Saturday that recommends to the Office of the President and the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Disease (IATF) the extension of enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in the city until May 15.
There were two new cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the city, bringing the total confirmed cases to five as of writing.
In an announcement Friday by the Office of the President, only those “high-risk” areas would be ordered ECQ extensions until May 15.
The province of Albay and Catanduanes are the only provinces in Bicol that was included to remain under ECQ.
“When ECQ is lifted over Naga City, the regional center of commerce, education and culture, it is expected that people from other municipalities and provinces in Bicol will come to our city, increasing the further risk of having a resurgence of COVID-19 outbreak in the city,” the resolution read.
The resolution also compared the city to Catanduanes, as “an Island-province geographically detached from the mainland Bicol with only one recorded COVID-19 case, has been deemed to be a high-risk area and has been declared to be under ECQ until May 15.”
It was also stated in the resolution that Naga City could not be considered a moderate or low-risk area as recommended by the city’s Medical Task Force.
The city has recorded one COVID-19 fatality.
