CEBU CITY—At least 20 more people in the city jail tested positive for coronavirus, raising the infection tally there to 147.
There were no details given whether the new cases were those of inmates or jail staffers.
In a statement, Mayor Edgar Labella said the health department had already collected 345 sets of respiratory samples from the city jail for coronavirus testing and some results were still pending.
Labella said there had been 24 new cases in Cebu on Friday (April 24), 20 of which are from inside jail.
The four other new cases were in the villages of Labangon, Luz, Mambaling and Guadalupe.
Labella said the health department is on contact tracing and implementing quarantine protocols. “Let us continue to stay safe and stay at home,” the mayor said.
As of 3 p.m. on Friday, the entire Cebu Island has a total of 384 cases—352 in Cebu City, 3 in Cebu province, 20 in Lapu-Lapu City and nine in Mandaue City.
