GUINOBATAN, Albay—The Bicol region’s oldest COVID-19 patient, a resident of this town, died on Thursday (April 23), the Department of Health (DOH) said.

The 78-year-old man from Zone 1 of Lower Binogsacan village died only two days after he was confirmed to be positive of coronavirus that causes COVID-19.

The patient first experienced symptoms on April 11 and was admitted at Bicol Regional Training and Teaching Hospital (BRTTH) in Legazpi City a week later.

According to the DOH, the man had no travel history in infected places or contact with a carrier and could be the region’s first case of community transmission.
