Earth Day calls for ‘ecological conversion’

/ 05:24 AM April 23, 2020

MANILA, Philippines — As the world marked Earth Day on Wednesday, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines called for “a very intimate ecological conversion” to fight the spread of COVID-19 and other illnesses.

“Prevent(ing) more pandemics and crises in the future depends on how we take care of our common home,” said Fr. Edwin Gariguez, executive secretary of the National Secretariat for Social Action/Caritas Philippines. “The more we disturb biodiversity, the more we put our lives and health in danger,” he added.
