DepEd: Photo of school calendar circulating online ‘false’

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Education (DepEd) on Wednesday said that the photo circulating online supposedly showing the school calendar for 2020 to 2021 is “false and unofficial.”

The supposed document showed that the school year would formally open on August 3, 2020, and will end on April 16, 2021.

“We would like to clarify that the information from a malicious photo circulating online of what is supposedly the school calendar for SY 2020-2021 is FALSE and UNOFFICIAL,” DepEd said in an advisory.

DepEd said it would release the official school calendar for 2020 to 2021 via a memorandum to be posted on its website and Facebook page.

“We strongly encourage everyone to be responsible and to exercise due diligence to verify accuracy when sharing information online,” it added.

DepEd earlier said it is leaning towards the option of moving the opening of classes to August due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones, however, said it would still depend on the recommendation of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) and the decision of President Rodrigo Duterte.

Classes in all levels have been suspended since March to adhere todep the strict quarantine measures implemented by the government.
