Valenzuela City posts 21 new COVID-19 cases in one day; total jumps to 80

MANILA, Philippines — Valenzuela City has recorded a steep increase in the number of residents found positive for the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) that causes COVID-19 from 59 cases to 80 0n Tuesday.

According to the local government, the jump was due to the 21 new documented cases as of 6 p.m. of April 21.

Of the 80 cases, six have died while seven patients managed to recover, the city government noted.

The local government said the 80th COVID-19 case is a 32-year-old female frontliner, who had previous contact with two other coronavirus patients.

Meanwhile, Valenzuela City also reported 202 suspected cases for COVID-19.

Earlier Tuesday, the Department of Health (DOH) said the Philippines already has 6,599 COVID-19 cases, including 437 fatalities and 654 recoveries.
