PNP: Southern Metro Manila has highest number of quarantine violators in NCR

MANILA, Philippines — The southern part of Metro Manila has so far the highest number of lockdown violators in the National Capital Region (NCR), Philippine National Police (PNP) said Tuesday.

In an online press briefing, PNP chief Gen. Archie Gamboa said the Southern Police District (SPD) documented 15,475 violators of the enhanced community quarantine.

“Ang basehan namin is yung number of violations na nangyari sa iba’t ibang distrito ng Metro Manila so dito ang may pinakamataas yung violation in the total of 15,475 are Southern Police District,” Gamboa said when asked about the most challenging area for enforcing lockdown measures in Metro Manila.

The SPD oversees law enforcement in Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Taguig, Pateros, and Makati.

The Northern Police District has the second-highest number of violators with 7,407, followed by Eastern Police District and Quezon City Police District with around 2,000 and Manila Police District with 1,714 violators.

For the nationwide tally, the PNP recorded 136,517 violators since March 17, the start of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ). Of the number, 98,986 violators were warned, 6,168 were fined, and 31,363 were arrested.

Also, law enforcers have arrested 732 people for hoarding, profiteering and overpricing of medical and basic goods.

Over 9,000 public utility vehicle drivers have also been apprehended during the ECQ, which has suspended public transport services.
