LUCENA CITY – The municipality of General Luna, extended a helping hand to its eggplant farmers at the height of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) crisis through the volunteer group “Talong Rangers” who went all out to link the growers with ready buyers in and around the province.
Mayor Matt Erwin Florido organized the “Talong Rangers,” who helped the local farmers dispose their fresh harvest of 1,350 kilos of eggplants.
Florido announced on his social media that 450 kilos of eggplants were sold by the Talong Rangers Sunday.
Mayor Webster Letargo of nearby Gumaca town bought 900 kilos of the newly harvested eggplant, Florido added.
“It is our gesture of support to our sister municipality,” Letargo commented on Florido’s post.
Gumaca town is also supporting its own farmers by purchasing their produce which are packed together with other relief items distributed to local folk.
Florido also announced that General Luna is ready to grant zero-interest loans to local business owners affected by the pandemic.
“Our aim is to help them with additional capital during this crisis and at the same time, ensure the continuous supply of grocery food items and other essentials for the community,” said Florido.
