MANILA, Philippines — Vexed by the continuous violation of the enhanced community quarantine rules, Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla has sought the help of the military to help enforce the lockdown measures in his province.
In a Facebook post Monday, Remulla said he will reach out to Interior Secretary Eduardo Año to request assistance from the Philippine Army and its reservists as some residents continue to defy the ECQ guidelines.
Remulla said about 10 percent of his province’s residents still violate the rules and regulations of the lockdown imposed to prevent the further spread of COVID-19.
“Wala po sa loob ko ang manakit. Gusto ko lang patuparin ang batas para yung 10% ay tumino at ang 90% ay maisalba,” Remulla said.
(I don’t want anybody to get hurt. What I want is just to enforce the law so the erring 10 percent will reform and help save the 90 percent.)
In mid-March, President Duterte placed the entire Luzon under a month-long enhanced community quarantine. It was supposed to lapse on April 13 but Duterte approved the proposal to extend it until April 30.
Due to the increasing number of quarantine violators, Duterte earlier warned a “martial law-like” enforcement of the lockdown, asking his police and the military to get ready to strictly enforce curfew and social distancing.
