MANILA, Philippines – Cloud bands over Mindanao are expected to bring rain in the region on Monday while the rest of the country will have generally fair weather, the state weather bureau said.
According to the latest forecast from Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Sunday, these clouds were brought by the easterlies, or the warm winds coming from the Pacific Ocean.
“We don’t see bad weather or a low pressure area that can affect the country in the next three to five days, and we can see in our latest satellite imagery that the cloud bands are focused in some areas in Mindanao,” weather specialist Ana Clauren said in Filipino
“These are due to the easterlies. That’s why we are expecting scattered rains that may range from light to moderate,” she added.
Earlier, Pagasa raised a general flood advisory over Davao regions, specifically in low-lying areas and those near watercourses like rivers and tributaries in Davao del Sur (Davao, Talomo, Lipandas, Tagulaya Sibulan, Digos, and Padada Mainit).
In Davao del Norte, watercourses of Tagum-Libuganon, Tuganay, Saug, Lasang; Davao del Oro’s Matiao and Hijo rivers and tributaries, and several others in Davao Oriental were also included.
“People living near the mountains slopes and in the low-lying areas of the above-mentioned river systems and the local disaster risk reduction and management councils concerned are advised to take necessary precautionary measures,” Pagasa’s advisory said.
In Luzon, hot and humid weather will continue to persist, but there will be rainfall in the afternoon and by evening due to localized thunderstorms. Temperatures in Manila will range from 25ºC to 35ºC, and 26ºC to 33ºC in Laoag in Ilocos Sur and Legazpi in Albay.
Meanwhile, the highest expected temperatures will be in Tuguegarao, Cagayan, topping at a feverish 37º C.
The Visayas will have similar weather, with temperatures peaking to 33ºC in Iloilo and Tacloban, and up to 34ºC in Cebu.
As of this writing, no gale warning has been raised over the country’s shores, which means that fisherfolk using small boats can set sail.
The condition all over the country’s seaboards ranges from slight to moderate, except in the extreme Northern Luzon which will be moderate.
