House security staffer contracts coronavirus says SecGen Montales

MANILA, Philippines – A member of the security staff of the House of Representatives tested positive for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), House Secretary General Jose Luis Montales said on Sunday.

Montales said the patient was admitted to a hospital last April 7 due to pneumonia and was discharged eventually on April 11.

“We were advised that a security personnel of the House of Representatives tested positive for COVID-19.  The employee, who is undergoing dialysis, last reported for work in January,” Montales said in a statement.

Montales said the House security staffer was admitted to a hospital for pneumonia and was discharged. He was however again admitted after testing positive for the coronavirus despite showing no symptoms.

“The employee was admitted to a hospital on  April 7 for pneumonia and discharged on April 11.  The employee was admitted again after testing positive, though has been asymptomatic since,” he added.

Previously, two House employees from the House printing service also tested positive for the coronavirus.  One of the two employees who had pre-existing medical conditions, later succumbed to COVID-19.

As of now, the Department of Health (DOH) said there are now 6,259 COVID-19 positive cases in the country. Of this number, 409 have died while at least 572 recovered from the disease.

Worldwide, there are over 2.33 million individuals infected with the coronavirus, 155,689 have died and another 599,692 have recovered from it.
