Las Piñas mayor to donate a year’s salary in city’s fight vs COVID-19

MANILA, Philippines — Las Piñas City Mayor Imelda Aguilar vowed to donate one year’s worth of her salary to aid the city’s fight against COVID-19, the city government announced on Friday.

According to a Facebook post by the local government, Aguilar’s donated salary will be used to buy rapid COVID-19 test kits.

Her donated salary will also serve as financial assistance to the bereaved families due to COVID-19.

In another Facebook post, it showed that 1,000 rapid test kits approved by the Food and Drug Administration, that was bought using Aguilar’s salary, have arrived. The test kits will be used to test suspect COVID-19 patients.

As of Friday, Las Piñas City has received information of 97 confirmed COVID-19 cases, with 13 recoveries and seven fatalities.

Meanwhile, the Philippines has 5,878 cases of the coronavirus, of which 487 recovered while 387 succumbed to the disease.
