PNP raises P90.3-M for gov’t cash aid

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) has raised more than P90.3 million to help fund the government’s cash subsidy for families hit hard by the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

“As of April 16, 2020 5 p.m, a total of P90.3 million was collected from the pledges of Philippine National Police personnel under the TeamPNP ‘Bayanihan Fund Challenge,” PNP said in a statement on Friday.

The donation drive, dubbed as Bayanihan Fund Challenge, collects contribution from over 250,000 members of the PNP to raise P200 million to augment cash aid for the low-income households who are affected by the COVID-19 outbreak.

The national police force said the voluntary donation drive does not require standard contributions. Also, it will not reduce or affect the salary of police officers.

Under the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act, over 18 million low-income households will receive P5,000 to P8,000, depending on the minimum wage rates in their respective regions, as financial assistance as the enhanced community quarantine continues to take effect due to COVID-19.
