PNP chief: 6 more cops test positive for coronavirus

MANILA, Philippines — Six more police officers have contracted the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), bringing the total number of positive cases in the national police force to 65.

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Archie Gamboa announced on Friday that 40 of the 65 infected officers are still undergoing medical treatment.

“As of today, there had been 65 cases of confirmed infection among PNP personnel, 40 of whom remain in sick bay, 14 are under home quarantine,” Gamboa said in a statement.

The total number of police personnel who have recovered from the disease remains at eight while the COVID-19 death toll at the PNP remains at three.

Gamboa added that the PNP Health Service has documented 51 police personnel who are considered probable cases, which means their test results are unknown. Meanwhile, 501 police personnel are tagged as “suspects” which means they have COVID-19 symptoms but have not yet been tested.
