PNP collects P69.1 million to help fund gov’t cash aid for poor families

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police’s (PNP) donation drive has so far raised P69.1 million to help fund the government’s social amelioration program which will aid poor families affected by the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

“As of April 15, 2020, 3 PM, a total of P69.1 million was collected from the pledges of PNP personnel under the TeamPNP Bayanihan Fund Challenge,” read the statement on Thursday.

PNP chief Gen. Archie Gamboa earlier began the donation drive among 250,000 members of the nation’s police force to raise P200 million to augment the financial assistance for the poor during the COVID-19 outbreak.

The donation drive is voluntary with no standard contributions and will have no deduction on salary of police officers, Gamboa added.

The Bayanihan to Heal as One Act states that some 18 million low-income households will receive P5,000 to P8,000, depending on minimum wage rates in their respective areas, as financial assistance amid the COVID-19 crisis.
