MANILA, Philippines — Tagaytay City in Cavite has recorded its first confirmed case of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Tagaytay Mayor Agnes Tolentino announced this Thursday through the local government unit’s Facebook account.
“Ipinababatid po sa mga mamamayan ng Tagaytay na mayroon na po tayong isang POSITIVE na kaso ng COVID-19 sa ating lungsod. Ang lahat po ay pinapayuhang manatili sa loob ng mga tahanan at sumunod sa tagubilin ng mga kinauukulan,” she said.
(We would like to inform residents in Tagaytay that we have a positive case of COVID-19. Everyone is advised to stay at home and to follow the directives of authorities.)
No further details about the patient was released as of posting time.
“Ginagawa po ng ating pamahalaang lungsod ang lahat ng hakbang upang maiwasan ang pagkalat ng COVID-19 sa ating pamayanan,” said the mayor of Tagaytay, known as a popular tourist destination near Metro Manila.

Tolentino advised city residents to wait for further details and announcements on the matter.
Nationwide, the number of COVID-19 cases is now recorded at 5,435 as of Wednesday afternoon, with 230 new patients. The death toll is now at 349 while the number of recoveries is at 353.
The government has placed the entire Luzon, where Tagaytay City is located, under an enhanced community quarantine. The quarantine has restricted more than 50 million Filipinos inside their homes from March 17 to April 30 to prevent the further spread of the coronavirus disease.
