MANILA, Philippines — Funeral homes in Manila that will deny their services for those who died of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) will face suspension or cancellation of their business permit.
That is the penalty under Ordinance No. 8628, which Mayor Isko Moreno signed on Wednesday.
The ordinance also prohibits funeral homes on overcharging for coffins, cremation, and burial.
“All funeral homes or funeral service facilities operating in the City of Manila are mandated to provide logistical and transportation support to deceased COVID-19 patients whether positive or probable,” the ordinance says.
Suspension of the business permit is the penalty for the first offense, cancellation for the second.
