Las Piñas reports 5 more COVID-19 cases; total now at 83

MANILA, Philippines — The number of coronavirus-infected residents in Las Piñas City rose to 83 as the city government recorded five new cases on Wednesday.

The death toll of the disease in the city remained at seven, while the number of patients who were able to beat COVID-19 also remained at 11.

Barangays Pamplona Dos and Talon Dos posted the highest number of cases in the city with 12 patients each.

The city government also recorded a total of 66 persons under investigation for COVID-19 infection and 352 persons under monitoring.

The Philippines so far has 5,233 COVID-19 cases, with 335 fatalities and 295 recoveries.

COVID-19 is a respiratory disease that first emerged in the city of Wuhan, Hubei province in China in late 2019.

The disease was caused by a novel coronavirus that was later named SARS-CoV-2 by the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses.
