MANILA, Philippines—Three top lawyers joined the defense team of Chief Justice Renato Corona Tuesday.
Additional members of their team are lawyers Ramon Esguerra, Tranquil Salvador and Karen Jimeno.
Esguerra is a former Undersecretary of the Department of Justice in charge of the National Prosecution Service, National Bureau of Investigation, Bureau of Immigration; and Witness Protection, Security and Benefit Program from February 1992 to March 1995. He is a professorial lecturer in Criminal Law and Remedial Law at the University of the Philippines College of Law,
Salvador is a partner of the Romulo Mabanta Buenaventura Sayoc & De Los Angeles. He is a former dean of the Pasay City College of Law and a former President of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines Quezon City Chapter. He is a Bar reviewer in Remedial Law and a professor of law at the University of the Philippines School of Law.
Jimeno is a former part of the Quisumbing, Torres law office. She had her masters at Harvard University.
“They all volunteered. They can speak for the panel,” Supreme Court Spokesman Jose Midas Marquez said.
