MANILA, Philippines – Residents of Southern Luzon and Bicol Region provinces can expect rains due to the tail end of a cold front, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said on Tuesday.
Pagasa’s latest forecast said that cloudy skies with isolated light rains may also prevail in other areas in Luzon, especially in Northern and Central Luzon due to the prevalence of the northeasterly surface windflow.
“Umiiral pa rin ‘yong tinatawag nating tail end ng cold front dito sa may eastern section ng Southern Luzon at nandyan pa rin po ‘yong tinatawag nating northeasterly surface windflow na nakaka-apekto naman dito sa may Northern at Central Luzon,” weather specialist Samuel Duran said.
“Asahan po natin, dahil po sa tail end ng cold front, ito pong lalawigan ng Quezon at buong Ka-Bikulan ay i-expect pa rin po natin ‘yong maulap na kalangitan na may mga pag-ulan, pagkidlat, pagkulog. At dahil naman po sa ating northeasterly surface windflow, magdadala po ito ng maulap na kaulangitan,” he added.
Just recently, the state weather bureau had raised a General Flood Advisory in Bicol Reigon, warning residents near mountain slopes and low-lying areas — including those near watercourses in Camarines Norte towns of Daet, Labo, and Basud — to monitor the situation amid a light rain forecast for the next 12 hours.
Meanwhile in some parts of Metro Manila and Rizal, residents experienced rain early Tuesday morning and afternoon.
Temperature in Metro Manila is expected to range from 24 to 33 degrees Celsius, while highs of 32 degrees Celsius in Laoag, Ilocos Norte, and Tuguegarao, Cagayan may be felt.
Weather in Visayas and Mindanao is expected to be generally fair, ranging from partly cloudy to cloudy skies. Temperature in cities of Iloilo and Cebu in Visayas, as well as Zamboanga and Davao in Mindanao, may peak at 34 degrees Celsius.
Pagasa is also monitoring cloud bands east of Mindanao, located partly outside the Philippine area of responsibility. However, the agency assured that there is a low chance of these turning into a low pressure area or a tropical depression.
A gale warning is still raised over the seaboards of Cagayan Valley, as waves may reach as high as four meters. This means that fisherfolk using small boats are not allowed to set sail in the said area.
Sea condition for the extreme Northern Luzon and the Ilocos Region seaboards will be rough, while the rest of the country’s seas would experience a slight to moderate condition.
