MANILA, Philippines — Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Archie Gamboa on Tuesday ended his 14-day quarantine after possible exposure to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Gamboa went through quarantine in Camp Crame in Quezon City.
“I am on the 14th day of self-quarantine upon doctors’ advice due to my possible exposure to COVID-19 that effectively ends today,” he said in his live address.
On April 1, PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac announced that Gamboa tested negative for COVID-19 and is “on duty, up, and running the entire affairs of the PNP amid the enhanced community quarantine.”
Banac said Gamboa did not show any symptoms of the disease as he continued with his self-quarantine after receiving his test result.
Prior to this, Interior Secretary Eduardo Año announced on March 31 his positive diagnosis for the illness.
Banac said Gamboa had no recent meeting with the Interior Chief at that time. On Monday, Año announced he is now negative of the virus based on his latest test.
Armed Forces of the Philippines chief Felimon Santos Jr. also earlier tested positive for the disease.
Meanwhile, the number of police personnel who have contracted the disease has now reached 50.
