10 nabbed for gambling after receiving cash assistance from Ecija town gov’t
PALAYAN CITY –– Ten people, including four women, were arrested for gambling on Monday (April 13) during the Luzon-wide lockdown, hours after the city government distributed cash assistance to families in Barangay Manacnac here.
A police operation caught them staking money in a card game, said Police Col. Renato Morales, city police chief, who launched the crackdown following complaints from residents.
Nabbed were construction workers Angelo Diongco, 39, Roldan Viado, 34, and Daniel Onia, 27; vendors Marilou Guerra, 56 and Gregorio Guerra, 51; and student Garry Gatbunton, 19.
Also caught were Rogelio Gonzales, 66; Tessa Sanchez, 34; Theresa Onia, 52; and Marites Guerra, 59.
In a social media post, Mayor Adrianne Mae Cuevas said she was disappointed that some residents resorted to gambling after the Palayan government did all it could to provide them food during the quarantine.
Cuevas led the distribution of the P3,000 cash assistance to families in Manacnac.
