TACLOBAN CITY—Local government officials in Eastern Visayas have stepped up to the plate to fulfill their duties to ease people’s suffering during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In Borongan City, Eastern Samar, officials hired a local group of seamstress to make face masks.
Borongan City Mayor Jose Ivan Dayan Agda contracted a group of seamstresses so they can earn money and at the same time provide face masks to the more than 21,000 families in the city.
The region-based party-list groups An Waray and Tingog also continued to provide personal protective equipment and gallons of alcohol to different hospitals.
Biliran Gov. Roger Espina also donated P600,000, representing his six-month salary, to the Biliran Provincial Hospital for the procurement of 400 COVID-19 test kits.
In Maasin City, Southern Leyte, the city government distributed thermal scanners and face masks to all of the city’s 70 barangays.
