LGBTQ members in Quezon town receive cash aid

LUCENA CITY –– Displaced workers and entrepreneurs from the LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer) community in General Luna town in Quezon province have received cash aid to help them cope with the crisis due to coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

On Tuesday, General Luna Mayor Matt Erwin Florido disclosed on his Facebook page that he received P50,000 donation from friends for distribution to local LGBTQ members who lost their sources of income due to COVID-19.

He said that in the “Ayudang Kabuhayan At Pagpapahalaga sa Bahaghari Program,” members would receive P1,000 cash aid each.

“Bahaghari” refers to a rainbow flag that symbolizes the LGBTQ rights movement around the globe.

Florido said they have listed at least 35 LGBTQ workers in local fashion and beauty businesses who were economically affected by the crisis.

He said some LGBTQ senior citizen members in the locality were also added to the list as cash aid recipients.
