Another doctor succumbs to COVID-19

MANILA, Philippines — The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) crisis in the country has taken the life of yet another doctor.

Dr. Roberto Anastacio, a cardiologist at the University of Santo Tomas and Makati Medical Center, died due to the respiratory disease last April 10.

He was confined at the Makati Medical Center, according to a statement from the Philippine Heart Center (PHC) last Friday.

“We remember and mourn a colleague, Dr. Roberto Anastacio… He too fell prey to this dreadful COVID virus while in confinement at MMC,” the PHC said.

“We weep with the family as we entrust his soul to our Lord, the Almighty. Rest in peace, Dr. Bobby Anastacio. Your mentees who are now mentors themselves all remember you with fondness and great respect for the teacher that you were,” it added.

The PHC said Anastacio once headed its Cardiac Graphics Section.

The Department of Health (DOH) earlier revealed that the deadly respiratory disease took the lives of at least 12 healthcare workers in the country.

Meanwhile, 252 doctors and 63 nurses have tested positive for COVID-19.

So far, there are 4,932 COVID-19 cases in the country with 315 fatalities and 242 recoveries.
