MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines posted its highest single-day fatality count on Sunday at 50, as the death toll from the novel coronavirus disease nears 300.
Based on the latest data of the Department of Health (DOH), 297 people infected with COVID-19 in the country have now succumbed to the highly contagious respiratory illness.
At the same time, DOH said it has documented 40 recoveries also on Sunday. This tally likewise appeared to be the highest single-day record of people who have managed to recover from COVID-19, a disease caused by the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2.
Meanwhile, DOH also reported that 220 more were found positive for COVID-19 and that as of Sunday, the total number of individuals infected in the country is 4,648.
