MANILA, Philippines — Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri announced on Sunday that he is officially free from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
In a statement, Zubiri said he has received his second negative result for COVID-19 from the Makati City health office.
“Today we celebrate Easter Sunday as the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. As a day of Thanksgiving I would also like to thank God and our Lord for a second chance in my life by healing me from COVID-19,” Zubiri said.
“Just received the happiest news ever of my second negative result from the Makati City health office which is a requirement for all COVID-positive patients to be considered recovered,” the senator added.
In March, Zubiri announced that he tested positive for the virus. He was the first senator to publicly announce that he had contracted the disease.
Senators Aquilino Pimentel III and Sonny Angara have also tested positive for the disease. Angara said he has also recovered from the disease.
According to Zubiri, the test results were relayed to him by Health Secretary Francisco Duque. He was found to be asymptomatic, meaning that he has yet to show any symptoms of the disease like dry cough, fever and shortness of breath.
