MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine government on Sunday rejected circulating social media posts claiming that there are already talks of a possible new extension of the Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine.
“Hindi po totoo ‘yan. Wala pa. Fake news ‘yan,” Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles said in a virtual press briefing.
(That’s not true. That’s fake news.)
“Kung may nagpapakalat man nito, hindi namin pinag-uusapan ‘yung extension ng lockdown after April 30,” he said.
(Even if someone’s spreading such news, the task force has not talked about the extension of the lockdown after April 30.)
The Luzon lockdown, which includes Metro Manila, was supposed to end on April 13 after its implementation on March 17. President Rodrigo Duterte, however, extended it until April 30 to further curb the spread of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
As of Saturday, the Philippines has recorded 4,428 confirmed cases of the viral disease, including 247 deaths and 157 recoveries.
