2 private ships to serve as quarantine facility for repatriated OFWs
MANILA, Philippines — Two passenger vessels will serve as a temporary isolation facility for repatriated Filipino seafarers and other Overseas Filipino Workers, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said on Black Saturday.
Transportation Undersecretary for Administrative Affairs Artemio Tuazon said those allowed in the ships are Filipino workers who do not have COVID-19 symptoms.
The returning Filipino workers will also undertake 14-day mandatory quarantine to contain spread of COVID-19 in the country.
The first ship can accommodate 800 people while the smaller ship can serve 300 individuals, DOTr said.
The two ships, which were procured through a partnership with DOTr and logistics firm 2GO, will start to accommodate the evacuated Filipinos on Easter Sunday (April 12).
