MANILA, Philippines — Quezon City government said it would implement a lockdown in the Balintawak Market if social distancing will not be strictly implemented while the enhanced community quarantine in Luzon is in effect.
In a Facebook post on Saturday, the city government said it constantly monitors the markets swarming with residents buying their essential needs but without consideration to the protocols of the quarantine, such as observing physical distance of persons from one another.
It also featured members of Market Development and Administration Department (MDAD), QC Police District, QC Department of Public Order and Safety (DPOS) inspecting the area.
The local government also warned market owners to strictly implement social distancing or they will be forced to implement a lockdown in the market.
“Binigyan rin ng babala ang market owners, na kung hindi pa rin maayos ang social distancing ay isasailalim sa lockdown ang palengke,” read the statement.
(We issued a warning to market owners that if they will not strictly observe social distancing, the Balintawak market will be placed under lockdown.)
Associated Press defined social distancing as the process of limiting people to gather and spreading the coronavirus.
