Two new COVID-19 cases confirmed in Cebu City

CEBU CITY, Cebu, Philippines — Two new cases of COVID-19 in Cebu City were confirmed in Barangay Luz, a densely populated urban poor village uptown in this city, Cebu Gov. Gwen Garcia said in a news conference on Saturday afternoon.

In a post on Facebook, the Cebu City Health Office said Barrio Luz already had another previously confirmed COVID-19 case.

The Department of Health in Central Visayas (DOH 7) confirmed the two new COVID-19 cases in Cebu City, but didn’t say which village these patients were located.

Dr. Jaime Bernadas, DOH 7 director, said the two new cases were among the 138 tests conducted Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center, a subnational laboratory accredited by the World Health Organization.

One individual was confirmed to have COVID-19 in a repeat test conducted by DOH 7.

In the same report by Bernadas, the DOH 7 also recorded two new recoveries — patients who tested negative for COVID-19.

Garcia placed the entire Cebu province under an enhanced community quarantine last March 30, which stays in place until further notice.

The governor warned people not to go to beaches on Easter Sunday or they would be apprehended.

“I already instructed the police to strictly monitor the beaches. Violators will face a penalty of imprisonment,” she said.

The entire province of Cebu, including Cebu City, now has 33 confirmed cases of COVID-19, but only nine were active patients.
