Cancellation of 2020 Palarong Pambansa looms
MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Education (DepEd) will propose the cancellation of the Palarong Pambansa 2020 due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) situation.
The annual sports meet for elementary and high school student-athletes was originally scheduled from May 1 to 9 in Marikina City but was postponed by the local government unit after it confirmed its first case of COVID-19.
“DepEd will propose the cancelation of 2020 Palarong Pambansa subject to approval of Palarong Pambansa Board via ad referendum,” DepEd Undersecretary Annalyn Sevilla said in a text message to INQUIRER.net on Friday.
The annual sports meet was originally scheduled in Occidental Mindoro, which was, however, devastated by Typhoon Tisoy, hence the move to Marikina City.
