MANILA, Philippines — Pasig City local government will shoulder the cremation expenses of deaths related to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), Mayor Vico Sotto said Thursday.
“Para sa mga taga-Pasig na may covid-related death, sagot ng Lokal na Pamahalaan ang CREMATION,” Sotto said in a tweet.

Sotto advised residents to call the local government’s hotline 8-643-0000 for assistance.
The Pasig mayor assured that it is following safety protocols set by the Department of Health (DOH).
“Rest assured that we strictly follow DOH protocols and it is 100% safe,” he said.
In an earlier resolution by the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Disease (IATF-EID), local government units are to designate funeral service facilities to handle the remains of patients who passed away due to the virus.
Funeral homes refusing to service the remains of COVID-19 patients will be penalized, the IATF said.
