Hotel rooms for quarantine of returning OFWs

MANILA, Philippines — Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat on Wednesday said the government had secured 11,549 hotel rooms for returning overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who are required to undergo the 14-day quarantine upon arrival in the country.

According to the Department of Tourism chief, at least 49 of the hotels with 3,343 rooms available are located outside Metro Manila, including those in Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas and Davao, so that OFWs may be billeted near their home destinations.

The cost of the accommodation will be shouldered by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, other national government agencies, the OFWs’ recruiting agencies, or the OFWs themselves, as may be applicable.

Puyat also said employees of business process outsourcing companies are currently billeted in 13,287 hotel rooms in Metro Manila, with their companies shouldering the cost.
