Davao Sur police-nurses aid hospitals in COVID-19 fight

DIGOS CITY –– The Davao del Sur police have deployed at least 11 police personnel, who were registered nurses, to augment the dwindling number of medical workers in Davao City hospitals.

Police Col. Alberto Lupaz, police provincial director, said the personnel were selected according to two categories, namely: that they were registered nurses and second, that they had experience in the medical field before entering the police force.

“The recall of police personnel having a degree in nursing is the initiative of Police Regional Office 11 leadership in response to the request of Davao City Mayor “Inday” Sarah Duterte, chairperson of the Regional Inter-agency Task Force on COVID-19,” Lupaz said.

He said his office started deploying the police-nurses since April 2.

The police-nurses would serve the Davao City hospitals for at least 14 days before another batch of police-nurses would again take their place, Lupaz said.
