Luzon quarantine violators surpass 90,000 mark

MANILA, Philippines — Over 90,000 individuals have so far been accosted for violating enhanced community quarantine protocols, the Joint Task Force Corona Virus Shield (JTF CV Shield) announced on Wednesday.

Data from from JTF CV Shield showed that from March 17 to April 7, 93,242 individuals were either warned, arrested or fined for violating quarantine protocols.

A total of 22,787 were arrested, 66,063 were warned while 4,392 have been fined.

The JTF CV Shield, which is the enforcement unit of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases also arrested 657 people for selling overpriced medical supplies amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) crisis.

On Tuesday, President Rodrigo Duterte approved the extension of the enhanced community quarantine covering Luzon until April 30, 2020 to further contain the spread of viral respiratory illness.

The Philippines has so far recorded 3,764 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 177 deaths and 84 recoveries.
