Rains may persist in northern Luzon due to northeast windflow — Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines – A generally fair weather may be expected all over the country except for the extreme northern Luzon, which may experience rains due to the cloud bands up north.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in its forecast on Tuesday afternoon that the clouds were brought by the northeasterly surface windflow which has prevailed in place of the northeast monsoon.

“Makikita natin sa latest satellite image natin itong mga kaulapan na bumabalot sa dulong bahagi ng hilagang Luzon, ito po ay dulot ng northeasterly surface windflow, kaya ngayong gabi maulap na kalangitan na may mahihinang pag-ulan pa rin ang inaasahan natin dyan,” weather specialist Ana Clauren said.

(We can see in our latest satellite imagery the cloud bands prevailing in the extreme Northern Luzon, which is caused by the northeasterly surface windlfow, that’s why cloudly skies with light rains should still be expected.)

“Sa nalalabing bahagi naman po ng ating bansa ay wala po tayong inaasahang malawakang mga pag-ulan, at wala rin po tayong nakikitang sama ng panahon na posibleng maka-apekto sa ating bansa in the next three to five days,” she added.

(For the rest of the country, we are not expecting any widespread rains, and we are not seeing any weather disturbance which may affect the country in the next three to five days.)

In other parts of Luzon, the weather would continue to be hot and humid, with temperatures ranging from 24 to 35 degrees Celsius in Metro Manila and Tuguegarao, Cagayan, while highs of 32 degrees Celsius are expected in Laoag, Ilocos Sur, Tagaytay City, and Legazpi, Albay.

In the Visayas, temperatures may play between 24 and 33 degrees Celsius, especially in Iloilo, Cebu, and Tacloban; while in Mindanao, Davao City may experience a hot day with highs of 35 degrees Celsius.

Despite the warm weather, Pagasa said that occasional rains every afternoon and night are also possible.

Sea condition around the country ranges from slight to moderate, except in northern Luzon which ranges from moderate to rough.  No gale warning has been raised as of now, which means that fisherfolk with small sea crafts are allowed to set sail.
