3 more Metro cops test positive for coronavirus

MANILA, Philippines — Three more police officers assigned in Metro Manila have contracted the coronavirus disease, bringing the total count of cases in the nation’s police force to 22, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Tuesday.

PNP spokesman Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac said that the new cases involved two 44-year-old police officers and a 34-year-old policeman.

“Additional confirmed cases were two 44-year-olds, a 34-year-old, all-male and assigned in Metro Manila,” Banac said in a statement.

Of the 22 confirmed cases of coronavirus disease, two police officers recovered from the ailment while two have died due to COVID-19.

As of April 7 at 6 a.m., PNP Health Service documented 242 police personnel who are considered as persons under investigation while 1,384 are persons under monitoring.

PNP Health Service chief Police Brig. Gen. Herminio Tadeo Jr. said they would inform families of infected police officers of health protocols to prevent the spread of the COVID-19.
